Abstract: This paper focuses on the countries of MENA region and uses panel data for 23 countries during the period 1999-2018. The main goal of the article is to assess the effects of socio-political instability on basic macroeconomic indicators, but especially to assess the relationship between instability and the exchange rate. The results suggest that the economies of the countries that took part in the events of the Arab Spring were relatively stable before the start of the Arab Spring, and there were no significant differences between the countries. We can also state that small protests did not affect basic economic indicators such as GDP growth, indebtedness, inflation, or the exchange rate in the long run.
