Abstract: Po skončení studené války americký politolog Samuel P. Huntington předložil svou slavnou tezi o střetu civilizací, která hned od počátku budila řadu rozporuplných emocí. Nicméně práce se těší vysoké popularitě nejen mezi laiky, ale i akademiky prakticky až dosud. Tato studie chce vysvětlit tzv. "paradox teze střetu civilizací", kdy byl proveden nejeden empirický test její pravdivosti, víceméně vždy s negativním výsledkem, přesto se nezdá, že by další badatelé (politici, média) byli v jejím dalším zkoumání touto skutečností odrazeni. Tato studie skrz pečlivou teoreticko-koncepční deskripci ukazuje, že hodnota teze spočívá v jiných faktorech než v její teoreticko-metodologické "čistotě". (After the end of the Cold War American political scientist Samuel P. Huntington presented his famous thesis about the clash of civilizations, which has provoked a lot of contradictory feelings. Nevertheless, this work has enjoyed high popularity among both professionals and non-professionals practically until today. This study explains the "paradox of the Clash of Civilizations" – despite many empirical tests of the thesis with negative results, many scientists (politicians, media) do not seem to be discouraged by this result, and they have not stopped using this thesis in their interpretation of the world politics. The goal of this study is to show that the value of the thesis consists in other factors than in its theoretical-methodological "purity".)
