Abstract: This paper aims to conceptually explore the relation between the integration process and culture and to contribute to the better understanding of the complex (internal and external) environment of the European Union. More precisely, it analyzes the role of culture in the EU’s architecture, while also taking into consideration the perception of EU citizens regarding their self-perceived cultural identity. The purpose of the papers is to provide relevant insight that could be used in the process of designing public policies aimed at improving the European integration process.
