Abstract: The impact of ideology is greater, than it may appear at the first sight. Ideology started to have an influence on the political development in various countries. Even though, the identity politics is primarily linked to the right-wing parties, we have an ambition to analyze its impact on the left-wing parties in Vyseghrad countries. The aim of this article is to answer the question concerning the deterioration of left-wing parties as a result of transition from class-based politics to a more identity-based politics. The article focuses on the theoretical foundation of left-wing politics, identity politics and development of left-wing parties in Czech Republic, Poland, Hungary and Slovakia. We put an emphases on the asymmetries between left-wing parties in the region, while trying to verify the hypothesis using regression analysis.
