Abstract:
The security and defence policy of the European Union, which is an integral part of its foreign and security policy, currently, in a time of continuous deterioration of the security environment, security situation, and increasing tension in relations between states, especially between great powers, not only because of Russian aggression in Ukraine, represents one of the most important policies of the Union. And although some progress has been made in recent years, some initiatives have been launched and several projects are already being implemented, it is still struggling with a number of problems. Also due to insufficient support on several levels. However, the Russian attack on Ukraine was a wake-up call for most Europeans, revealing large gaps in European defence capabilities and capacities and the ability to conduct a major military operation autonomously. That is also why the author in his article, using relevant methods of interdisciplinary scientific research, deals with the issue of European security and defence in connection with the current development in the context of the conflict in Ukraine and the possible impact on its development in the future, especially from the point of view of the potential deepening of security and defence integration of European Union member states.
