Abstract:
After a bygone decade of transformation, there is a decade of monetary and fiscal European integration waiting for Slovakia. Participation in the EMU (the Eurozone) will be the final step on the way of integration to the EU. The aim of this contribution is to give a view on the process of monetary integration of the SR to the Eurozone, to evaluate a fulfilment of the Maastricht criteria, to point out on changes in the monetary policy of the National Bank of Slovakia (NBS) and within the theory of optimal currency area to describe positives and negatives of a membership in the EMU and potential time-schedule for entering the Eurozone. (Maastricht convergence criteria. Maastricht criteria and the SR. Nominal convergence of the Slovak economy to EU-15 or EMU. Changes in the monetary policy of the National Bank of Slovakia. Benefits and costs of the monetary integration of the SR. The Theory of Optimal Currency Area and the EMU. To the question of the right time for the entry to the EMU.)
