35 heures. Évaluations de l'effet emploi

Mathieu Bunel and Stéphane Jugnot

Revue économique, 2003, vol. 54, issue 3, 595-606

Abstract: This paper presents several Dares? empirical analysis on the impact of working time reduction on employment. Using recent econometrics methodology to analyse active labour market programs, the authors found a net effect on employment of 6 % to 7 % for companies under the Robien?s or Aubry?s social tax cuts and approximately 3 % for the other companies. Selection bias and differences on the implementation of the ?reduced work week? explain this gap. Finally, macro-economic inference pointed out that reduced work week had generated up to 300 000 new jobs. Classification JEL : J21, J 22, C34
