Abstract:
This paper contributes to the literature on worker and job flows initiated by Davis and Haltiwanger [1999]. We estimate the links between worker flows (hires and separations) and job flows (gains and loss at the establishment level) in France. Our statistical models are applied to the EMMO-DMMO dataset (which entails information on each entry and exit at establishment level, for private sector establishments of 10 employees or more) for 1999?2010. In contrast with the existing literature for France, our estimations show the crucial role for movements of workers in open-ended contracts in employment adjustment at the establishment level, especially for separations in the context of employment loss. Flows of worker in fixed term contracts are less connected to employment growth, especially in the context of job destruction.
