Abstract:
In this paper we investigate how counseling and monitoring affect firms? hiring strategies and performance. Using a social experiment which induced a greater provision of activation, we find that in the short-run, job search assistance changes hiring decisions of small firms. The estimated short-run effect on value added per worker is however null or only marginally positive.
