Abstract:
In recent years, large French cities have experienced a double phenomenon of metropolisation and spatial expansion. In this context, daily mobility, and especially work-related mobility, is an important concern of public transport authorities in order to develop adapted infrastructures. Based on the last three Household Travel Surveys (1995, 2006 and 2015), this paper focuses on the evolution of employed people mobility in the Lyon conurbation area over the last twenty years (home to work distance and car use). The aim is to understand if the evolution of mobility indicators is mainly due to changes in their behaviour or to structural changes in characteristics of active persons, by including a temporal dimension in econometric models. If some differences in terms of mobility behavior still remain, for example according to employment status, car use to commute to work has significantly changed. We note a catch-up effect among women and less favoured social groups. JEL: R40, R41, C24, C25, J61
