Abstract: 1997 gingen die konjunkturellen Uhren - wie schon seit 1994 - weiter nach. Das reale Bruttoinlandsprodukt nahm bei annähernd stagnierender Inlandsnachfrage um etwa 0,5% zu. Die Arbeitslosenquote stieg auf 5,3%. 1998 gewinnt die Erholung allmählich an Breite, das reale BIP dürfte um ca. 1,5% expandieren. Die Arbeitslosenquote wird im Jahresdurchschnitt bei ungefähr 5,5% liegen. 1999 setzt sich die Aufwärtsentwicklung in etwas abgeschwächtem Tempo fort. Das reale BIP dürfte um ca. 2% wachsen; wichtigste Triebkraft bleibt der Export von Gütern und Diensten. Auf dem Arbeitsmarkt ist noch keine Verbesserung abzusehen.
