Abstract: Nach neuesten Schätzungen, die wohl noch revidiert werden, hat das reale Bruttoinlandsprodukt (BIP) 1997 um 2,5% zugenommen. Die Arbeitslosenquote blieb bei 4,4%. 1998 setzt sich der Aufschwung fort, das reale BIP dürfte um ca. 2,75% expandieren, die Arbeitslosenquote könnte leicht (auf 4,25%) sinken.1999 bleibt die Ausfuhr die dynamischste Komponente auf der Nachfrageseite. Bei einem Wachstum des realen BIP um erneut etwa 2,75% dürfte sich die Arbeitsmarktlage weiter verbessern.
