Abstract: The 24th session of the Council of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) was held in Rome, June 18–19, 1956 under the chairmanship of S. A. Hasnie. The Council expressed its sorrow at the death of Professor André Mayer, one of the founders of FAO and the head of the French delegation until his death. The Council also accepted the resignation of the Director-General, Dr. P. V. Cardon, and decided to hold a special session of the Conference on September 10, 1956 to appoint a new Director-General as well as to receive a report by the Council concerning the world food and agriculture situation and matters relating to the organization.
