Abstract:
The thirty-second session of the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), comprising the 1150th to the 1182d meetings inclusive, was held in Geneva from July 4 to August 4, 1961. In opening the session, Mr. Foss Shanahan (New Zealand), President for 1961, drew attention to the important role of the Council as the body primarily responsible for the work of the UN and its related agencies in promoting economic and social development.
