Abstract:
It was reported by the United States High Commissioner (Keyes) that the Soviet policy of charging the Austrian government with neo-Nazism and military rearmament culminated during the period from April 1 to June 30, 1950. In an April meeting of the Allied Council the Soviet High Commissioner charged that the Austrian gendarmerie in the United States, United Kingdom and French zones was being organized, armed and equipped in violation of existing Allied Council agreements to provide a basis for a future Austrian army. However, in a preceding meeting of the Executive Committee, the United States, United Kingdom and French Deputy Commissioners had stated their investigations had revealed no such activities in their zones.
