Abstract: The military defense of the Continent is essential to the stability of its democratic institutions and the well-being of its peoples; The American republics have assumed obligations under the Charter of the Organization of American States and the Inter-American Treaty of Reciprocal Assistance to assist any American states subjected to an armed attack, and to act together for the common defense and for the maintenance of the peace and security of the Continent;
