Abstract: The legislature of the West German Federal Republic completed on May 15, 1953, parliamentary action on the European Defense Community Treaty, the first of the six signatories to do so. However, the final steps in west Germany's ratification were delayed pending decisions from the courts on the constitutionality of the treaty and the method of its parliamentary approval.
