Education, values ​​and development in Chocó: a path towards social transformation

Abstract: Chocó faces an educational crisis that impacts its social and economic development. This essay examines the structural challenges affecting education in the region, addressing factors such as corruption, lack of investment, and the disconnection between national policies and local reality. It is argued that education should be seen not only as a learning tool, but as a mechanism of social transformation that strengthens cultural identity and community values. Axiology is highlighted as a fundamental axis in citizen education, promoting ethics and responsibility as means to counteract corruption and inequality. Likewise, alternative education experiences are analyzed, including initiatives led by churches and communities, which have managed to generate an impact on the social fabric through pedagogical approaches based on coexistence and leadership. The essay concludes that educational change in Chocó must be accompanied by a change in collective mentality. Without an education with a social sense and ethical commitment, development opportunities will continue to be limited. The transformation must emerge from within, with a contextualized educational model and a critical and committed citizenry.
