Extrinsic barriers in the practice of physical activity of teachers in Santiago, Dominican Republic

Pedagogical Constellations, 2025, vol. 4, issue 2, 108-123

Abstract: This study aimed to analyze the influence of extrinsic barriers on teachers' physical activity in Santiago, Dominican Republic. It was conducted using a quantitative approach and a non-experimental, descriptive, cross-sectional design. The target sample consisted of 371 teachers. The instruments used were the International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ) and the Barriers to Being Active Questionnaire (BBAQ). Data will be analyzed using SPSS STATISTICS software. One of the main findings is that barriers are not related to gender. Other important results are that 73% have very busy days for physical activity, 63.6% would like exercise opportunities at work, and 55.5% of family and friend activities do not include physical activity. In conclusion, extrinsic barriers do not have a gender preference. Participants perceive that exercising takes up a lot of time from their work.
