Finanzbildung in einem eigenen Schulfach?

Abstract: Despite numerous initiatives to support school-based financial education, there is no dedicated school subject in Germany. In this article, I discuss existing proposals on curricular integration of financial education in schools. The first section roughly sketches expectations connected with financial education in schools as well as the current curricular situation in Germany. Against this backdrop, the main part differentiates three types of possible integration into school lessons and weighs their relative advantages and disadvantages. Finally, I summarize recent empirical findings on the effects of economic education as result of a mandatory school subject in economics. With regard to these findings, I come to the conclusion that financial education under the umbrella of a domain specific school subject is the best way to improve existing deficiencies. Trotz vieler Initiativen zur Stärkung finanzieller Bildung an Schulen findet sich in den deutschen Lehrplänen hierzu kein eigenes Fach. Im Folgenden skizziere ich zunächst die Erwartungen an eine finanzielle Bildung und die faktische Situation an den Schulen, um dann ausführlicher die Hintergründe der Fachabstinenz zu beleuchten. Dazu werden unterschiedliche Möglichkeiten einer curricularen Integration mit ihren Vor- und Nachteilen diskutiert. Am Ende ziehe ich mit Verweis auf empirische Befunde ein Fazit und komme zu dem Ergebnis, dass ein Fach Wirtschaft zu einer Verbesserung der vorherrschenden defizitären Situation führen würde.
