Local Economic Structure and Industry Development in Germany, 1993-2001

Economics Bulletin, 2005, vol. 15, issue 17, 1-8

Abstract: This paper formulates a weighted regression approach to analyze the impact of dynamic MAR- and Jacobs-externalities on local employment growth in Germany between 1993 and 2001. We find that Jacobs-externalities matter both in manufacturing, and service industries. MAR-externalities are present only in services.
