Optimal intellectual property rights protection: the case of Colombia

Francesco Bogliacino and Alberto Naranjo

Economics Bulletin, 2008, vol. 15, issue 20, 1-15

Abstract: We investigate the optimality of the actual degree of Intellectual Property Rights protection using a methodology derived from Patent Race Literature. We applied the methodology to Colombia, using the available two Innovation Surveys. Our result are consistent with an already optimal existing protection and we raise doubts over the gains from a stricter regulation.
