Analyzing a Long-Run Relationship between Exports and Imports Revisited: Evidence from G-7 Countries

Economics Bulletin, 2016, vol. 36, issue 2, 665-676

Abstract: The main objective of this study is to provide an up-to-date and robust assessment of the long-run relationship between exports and imports in the G-7 countries. Using an expanded sample size and an enhanced econometric technique - autogressive distributed lag (ARDL) bounds testing approach to cointegration, our results show that exports and imports are cointegrated for five out of the seven countries and the estimated long-run coefficients are less than one.
