Abstract: This exploratory empirical study investigates the hypothesis that greater labor market freedom should elevate the female labor force participation rate of women age 65 years and older. Strong and consistent empirical support for this hypothesis is provided in this study. For example, a one unit increase in the labor market freedom index appears to induce a 5.3%-6.88% increase in the female labor force participation rate of women age 65 years and older.
