A summary measure of answers to statements (SMAS) in the case of ordered rating scales

Abstract: This paper suggests that an index recently introduced in the literature on the measurement of health achievement when only ordinal variables are available, could be used as a summary measure of answers to statements in the case of ordered rating scales. An empirical illustration based on data from the International Social Survey Program shows the usefulness of such an index.
