Inclusive growth in Côte d'Ivoire: A welfare-based measure and ARDL analysis of its determinants

Abstract: This paper examines the inclusiveness of economic growth in Côte d'Ivoire over the period 1996–2023 using a unified measure of inclusive growth that captures both income dynamics and equitable distribution. Drawing on a social welfare function inspired by Anand et al. (2013) and employing an Autoregressive Distributed Lag (ARDL) econometric framework, the study identifies the short- and long-term determinants of inclusive growth. The findings indicate that investment promotes inclusive growth in the short run, while education, trade openness, and quality of governance are the main drivers in the long run. A robustness check based on the Rolling ARDL method confirms the temporal stability of the estimated relationships, underscoring the critical role of institutions in fostering an equitable development path. These results provide valuable policy insights for steering economic strategies toward greater equity.
