Abstract: Algeria is by excellence a multilingual country. Inherited from the colonial system and rooted in Algerian soil, French is explicitly omnipresent among all citizens. In school and university contexts, it is taught as a first foreign language. In this contribution, we try to see the linguistic representations towards French among students enrolled in the second year LMD in the French department at the University of Adar and to see their impact and the impact of the socio-family environment on the use of this language in formal and informal situations.
