Abstract: This paper examines the role of imagination in perceiving and constructing a cognitive representation of cinematic images. It explores how complex cognitive mechanisms involved in imagination contribute to understanding, interpreting, and completing film images. The paper argues that each viewer constructs unique pseudo-realities while watching a film, using their imagination, knowledge, and experiences to reconstruct a personal variant of the film's narrative. These differences are attributed to neuro-psychic differences and individual cultural backgrounds. The mechanism of imagination is described as the mental capacity to construct cognitive representations, mental schemes, or images, not directly perceived sensorially, and it involves complex interactions between multiple brain regions, using cognitive resources shared with perception and memory.
