Abstract: Due to the implementation of digital basic education in teacher education programs at many institutions in Austria, this study aims to examine the integration of critical media literacy in teacher preparation for digital basic education (Digitale Grundbildung). An online survey was conducted using a critical media literacy framework, and the results revealed that many dimensions of critical media literacy were integrated into the course instruction, albeit to varying degrees. Despite the challenges, the promising results demonstrate the potential of incorporating critical media literacy into media education training for teachers.
