On the stability of a second order retarded differential equation

Abstract:
In this paper we study a second order retarded differential equation with variable delay. Applying the fixed point theory we obtain a necessary and sufficient condition ensuring that the zero solution of the equation is asymptotically stable. Our results improve and generalize the known ones in this direction.
