Abstract:
We study the flow of a fluid-solid mixture as a non-linear complex fluid. We suggest a new flux term for representing the particle compactness and motion. This flux term becomes important as the local particle concentration approaches the maximum packing value. We then study a representative problem, namely flow in a pipe, with various flow conditions. From the simulation results, we observe that the new proposed flux term can limit (constrain) the particle concentration to be less than the critical volume fraction.
