Abstract:
Solar technologists working on all-glass evacuated tubular collectors are handicapped because the use of selective obsorbers is inherent in the design but most of the selective absorber coatings have been investigated and tested on metallic substrates. This study reviews methods to produce solar selective absorber surfaces which have been developed and tested on glass substrates to be used in evacuated collectors for the photo-chemical conversion of solar energy. It is also aimed to examine selective surfaces which are prospective candidates to be applied on glass tubes. This may provide an impetus to the scientists working in the area of solar energy materials to develop and test selective absorbers not only on metallic substrates but on glass tubes as well.
