Abstract:
An equation has been derived to determine the difference in the output hot water temperatures of open and closed solar systems. This temperature difference is mainly made up of two factors, the collector parameter and a heat exchanger parameter. Means of minimising this temperature penalty are discussed and analysed. The present results are important in the design of solar thermal systems when heat exchangers are used.
