Monitoring the effects of draught elimination

Applied Energy, 1985, vol. 20, issue 1, 69-83

Abstract: A retrofit was carried out on a building of 36 000 m3 volume. This eliminated air infiltrations around windows, using silicone caulking. The energy balance of the building was evaluated experimentally before and after the retrofit. Besides the useful experience gained through monitoring the thermal behaviour of the building, we verified the impact of unwanted air infiltrations on a building's energy wastage. The analysis of experimental data allowed us to extend the results obtained from town houses by other authors to apartment buildings.1 - 3
