Does social interaction have an impact on residents’ sustainable lifestyle decisions? A multi-agent stimulation based on regret and game theory

Abstract:
A sustainable lifestyle is the inevitable choice for mitigating global climate change. This paper describes a multi-agent simulation to analyze the impact of preferences, income parameters, and interaction intensity on residents’ decision-making about sustainable lifestyles considering social interaction. The results showed that preferences made a difference to residents’ choice and that residents with interest preferences are most susceptible to interactive information. Greater benefits can induce residents to practice a sustainable lifestyle, whereas cost and benefits loss determine the macro trend of group decision-making. In addition, it was found that large nodes (residents with more neighbors) play a key role in guiding residents to implement a sustainable lifestyle. These results improve our understanding of the impact of social interaction on individual decisions to practice a sustainable lifestyle. These findings could facilitate the practical implementation of sustainable lifestyles and provide new ways to launch policies related to sustainable lifestyle promotion.
