Applied Energy, 1988, vol. 29, issue 1, 16 pages

Abstract: The purpose of this study is to perform a second law analysis via a computer simulation of a solar-assisted heat pump system. Results are obtained for typical days during each month of December. January, February and March for Istanbul (41° N). During the analysis, five different solar collector areas are used for both the solar-assisted heat pump system and the solar collector system. Eleven different systems are examined and the results are compared. The conventional boiler is used as an auxiliary energy source for all of the systems. The exergetic efficiency or second law efficiency is defined, formulated and deduced for each of the systems. The exergetic efficiencies are calculated and comparisons are performed among the different systems.
