Mathematical modelling of a fluidised-bed charcoal gasifier

Angshu Sett and S. C. Bhattacharya

Applied Energy, 1988, vol. 30, issue 3, 186 pages

Abstract: A mathematical model for the behaviour of a fluidised-bed charcoal gasifier was developed, taking into account fluidised-bed hydrodynamic conditions, chemical reaction rates, mass diffusion rates, and the conservation of mass and energy. In the course of the model's development, the modified [`]bubble assemblage model' developed by Kato & Wen1 was assumed. Kinetic data for major combustion and gasification reactions were taken from Goldman et al.2 for anthracite char with a necessary temperature correction as suggested by Rensfelt et al.3 The model was solved numerically using an IBM 3083 mainframe computer. Results obtained for the simulation show qualitative resemblance to the limited amount of experimental data generated in our laboratory.
