Abstract:
We seek to contribute to understanding household interest in battery storage, particularly the role of customer trust in their utility company. Using data from a survey of California households, we examine whether customers’ trust in their utility company is associated with their interest in battery storage. We find that customer trust that their utility company acts in their best interest is associated with lower levels of interest. Trust that the utility company is competent has some effect. Perceptions that battery storage has financial and environmental benefits and low nonmonetary costs are also associated with higher levels of interest.
