Abstract:
This is a heat-transfer study of the soil (below a cold store) containing immersed heating elements to prevent freezing. The numerical study utilizes the unconditionally stable, finite-difference technique. Different heat-generation profiles were considered, viz., uniform, step variation, linear variation, and non-linear variation. In addition, the study reveals the optimal insulation thicknesses corresponding to different temperatures and dimensions for the operating cold-store.
