Heating of the soil below a cold store

M. M. Sorour, M. S. El Din and R. A. Mahmoud

Applied Energy, 1991, vol. 39, issue 1, 45-57

Abstract: This is a heat-transfer study of the soil (below a cold store) containing immersed heating elements to prevent freezing. The numerical study utilizes the unconditionally stable, finite-difference technique. Different heat-generation profiles were considered, viz., uniform, step variation, linear variation, and non-linear variation. In addition, the study reveals the optimal insulation thicknesses corresponding to different temperatures and dimensions for the operating cold-store.
