Abstract:
The principle of converting solar energy directly into electricity is now practically feasible. In order to obtain a reliable source of power from such an intermittent power supply as the sun, some form of storage is necessary. Several methods of storage are reviewed. The particular advantages of using battery storage for solar systems are discussed and a method of designing such a system is analysed. The expected demands on such a battery are discussed, along with the battery developments needed in order to satisfactorily meet such demands.
