Abstract: We reveal the main characteristics of noise-induced intermittency in a dynamical system with two coexisting attractors. Both the residence time distributions and the mean residence time versus an asymmetry parameter, are found analytically, for each of the coexisting states, and both of them obey exponential laws. The proposed theory is applied to a bistable energy model, dissipatively coupled logistic maps and bistable Chua generator.
