Abstract: We study pattern formation in a quasi-two-dimensional dipolar Bose–Einstein condensate beyond mean field by including Lee–Huang–Yang corrections. Starting from a three-dimensional description, we derive an effective nonlocal extended Gross–Pitaevskii equation and map out the phase diagram over experimentally relevant parameters. LHY effects suppress the roton instability and stabilize stripe and labyrinthine patterns. We further characterize the transition from the homogeneous to the modulated phase using a density-contrast order parameter. The transition is found to depend on system parameters: it shows a discontinuous (first-order) onset at smaller atom numbers and a continuous (second-order-like) behavior at larger atom numbers, with a crossover between the two regimes. Our results provide a unified and quantitative description of pattern formation and phase transitions in dipolar condensates with LHY corrections.
