A multifractal formalism for countable alphabet subshifts

Alejandro Mesón and Fernando Vericat

Chaos, Solitons & Fractals, 2009, vol. 39, issue 1, 222-229

Abstract: We study here the multifractal spectrum of local entropies for subshifts with an infinite alphabet. The description of this spectrum is obtained from the Legendre transform of a free energy map and Gibbs states associated with adequate potentials. The lack of compactness in the symbolic space necessitates modifications to the description for the compact case, i.e. for finite alphabet. In particular, the class of potentials must be restricted to a narrower one than that considered for the compact case.
