On two notions of topological entropy for noncompact spaces

Abstract:
This paper is a contribution to the investigation of two notions of topological entropy for noncompact spaces introduced by J.E. Hofer. In particular, a conjecture of Hofer on the coincidence of his definitions for the autohomeomorphisms of Tychonoff spaces is disproved.
