Abstract: Complex intracellular Ca2+ oscillations are systematically investigated in a mathematical model based on the mechanism of Ca2+-induced Ca2+ release (CICR), taking account of the Ca2+-stimulated degradation of inositol 1,4,5-trisphosphate (IP3) by a 3-kinase. Periodic, quasi-periodic and chaotic bursting oscillations exist in a wide range of parameter values and occur alternatively as the parameters change slightly. The transition among them can be observed by the evidence in their interspike interval and the Lyapunov exponent. These results reveal the role of agonist-stimulated of IP3 degradation as a possible source for complex patterns in Ca2+ signaling.
