Abstract: It is known that there is a 1/f behavior in music and speech. However it is not known yet whether the 1/f behavior in the region below 20Hz shows the characteristics depending on the genres of music in different culture. In this article, by 1/f noise analysis we analyze music in seven different genres (classic, hipop, newage, jazz, rock, pansori (Korean traditional music) and trot (Korean modern music)). For the analysis, we use 20 songs per each genre of music, which are recorded in 16KHz, 16 bit and mono type. We evaluate them using 1/f noise analysis in the region below 20Hz and find that 1/f noise analysis of songs in that region may not show the characteristic of culture but that of each genre of music. Therefore it implies that we may classify each genre of music by the score of 1/f noise analysis in the region below 20Hz.
