The niche construction paradigm in ecological time

Abstract: Niche construction has emerged as a central focus for a variety of phenomena that operate over evolutionary time. Although its importance in ecological time cannot be denied, an analysis of expected ecological dynamics of the concept has not yet appeared in the literature. Using the concepts of necessary and sufficient population, an equilibrium approach to the phenomenon is developed. The equilibrium theory states that there is a balance between the need for a certain population to maintain the constructed niche and the size of the population that can be sustained by that niche.
