Use of SEISLOG for basin evaluation and field development

Abstract:
Seismic traces can be converted into a series of synthetic sonic logs of SEISLOGS. SEISLOGS, with a vertical axis in depth can be used in exploration to delineate productive units in the subsurface, as well as lithology and facies distributions in basins. In delineation and production, this method can predict reservoir continuity, and optimize platform locations thus avoiding dry holes. Six examples of its use are given—three in carbonates and three in elastics, the latter from the South China Sea.
