Offshore hydrocarbon development and potential in the Gulf of Thailand

Abstract:
Thailand has become partially self-sufficient in energy supply since September 12, 1981, when natural gas began to come ashore from the Erawan Gas Field. This was the first phase of offshore reserve development. Although the development of the Erawan Gas Field faced several engineering and geologic problems in the early stage of production, the Gulf of Thailand shows considerable potential. Commercial gas/condensate reserves in Tertiary sandstone reservoirs of at least 16 trillion ft3 of wet gas and 100 million bbl of condensate await further investment. The second and third phases of development are being implemented to harvest these reserves.
