Abstract:
In India, coal has come to occupy a pivotal position in sustaining the country's rising energy consumption and speeding economic growth. The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), in joint collaboration with the Government of India (GOI), is supporting research and development programs aimed at increasing the utilization of coal feedstocks with advanced technologies. The four areas selected for collaboration are: 1.(1) fluidized-bed combustion,2.(2) coal-water mixture,3.(3) coal cleaning and preparation, and4.(4) gas clean-up and separation. This paper presents both the rationale behind the selection of these areas and an overview of the coal technologies being implemented under the USAID/GOI program.
